I was not a 50′s girl. I was born in ’61, so I guess that means my heyday was in the 70′s. (now there’s a theme I’d like to avoid!) For some reason though, the 50′s era is beloved by young and old. It was a fun, colorful, and youthful decade. I’m sure following the previous one of war, rations, and poverty made it seem all the better. For what ever reason, we are still revisiting this period in song, dance, and clothing – whether it be for a halloween costume or a sock hop.
My church recently had a sock hop and I volunteered the cake. To be truthful, I was excited at the prospect of creating a 50′s theme in sugar. The motifs from this time are so iconic – saddle shoes, poodle skirts, records, cars, dice, ponytails, etc. Since this was for a ladies event, I decided to concentrate on all things GIRL – and of course, the cake was chocolate!
